On Monday 5th December, Derby RFC were happy to host the RFU’s ‘Introduction to Refereeing’ course. The course was arranged via the club to provide greater referee cover for the junior section to ensure that planned fixtures are fulfilled wherever possible. The course was well attended by the 16 learners including representatives from Derby RFC and our friends from other clubs in NLD such as Melbourne and Ashby. It was particularly pleasing to see several junior players participating, taking their first steps into officiating.
The course consisted of the first hour indoors (in the dry!) before 2 hours braving the wintery conditions. Despite the rain, all 16 learners got the opportunity to have a go at officiating for the first time. Many thanks must go to deliverer Paul Carroll for his expertise throughout the course and for dealing with an unexpected change to his usual delivery. It was great to see so many volunteers keen to develop and we hope to host more courses in the future.
