Volunteers Always the MVPs

Behind every local rugby club is a team of dedicated volunteers quietly making things happen. At Derby Rugby Club, it’s the people behind the scenes who help create the atmosphere, keep match days running smoothly and make the club a welcoming and safe place for players, supporters and families alike.

You don’t have to have pulled on a jersey to get involved,  just bring a willingness to lend a hand and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from being part of the community. Whether it’s helping out on match day, supporting around the grounds, or simply pitching in where needed, volunteering is a great way to feel more connected to the club and the people who make it special.

REASONS FOR VOLUNTEERING

  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Learning and developing new skills
  • Enhancing work experience and building a CV
  • Being active and improving health and wellbeing
  • Meeting new people and broadening your social network
  • Giving something back to the game you love
  • Making a difference in the community
  • Having fun

Volunteering at Derby Rugby Club is can be more than coaching or managing teams.

On match days, it might mean pulling on a high-viz vest and helping guide cars into the car park, greeting familiar faces as supporters arrive and making sure everything runs smoothly before kickoff. Once the rush settles, there’s often time to grab a well-earned sossie sarnie and enjoy the buzz around the clubhouse. These small roles may seem simple, but together they create the welcoming match day atmosphere that keeps the club running week after week.

There are plenty of other ways to lend a hand too. Some volunteers join the grounds crew to help keep the pitches match ready, moving posts, checking lines or tidying up after training. Others gather a few community-minded friends for a stroll around the grounds, picking up litter and making sure the place looks its best. It’s not about having special skills, it’s about pitching in where you can, when you can.
At its heart, the club thrives on people willing to jump in and help, because without volunteers, the simple truth is that things just don’t happen!
